About Us

Dybends sells soft light you can carry. We do not run a factory, and we are not going to pretend otherwise — we find the people who already make this well, specify what we want changed, and sell it direct.

Why air

Soft light is a size problem. A source looks soft when it is large relative to the subject, which is why studio photographers own softboxes the size of a door and why a phone's LED will never flatter anybody. The catch is that large sources have always meant large objects: frames, rods, fabric, a stand heavy enough to hold it all, and fifteen minutes of assembly before you take a single frame.

Air removes the frame. An inflated shell is rigid enough to hold a 60-centimetre form and light enough to carry all day, and when you let the air out there is nothing left but fabric. That is the entire idea, and every product we stock follows from it.

How we actually work

Inflatable lighting is made by a handful of factories, most of which sell the same units to a dozen brands who each glue their name on and add a distributor's margin and a retailer's margin on top. We buy from those factories too. The difference is what we do with the margin: we skip both of those steps and ship direct to you.

What we do add is selection and support. We test what we list, we say plainly what each light will not do, and we handle every warranty claim ourselves instead of pointing you at a manufacturer on another continent. When something arrives broken you email us, and a person answers.

What that model costs you is time. Shipping direct means 10–18 business days rather than next-day, and we would rather tell you that on the shipping page and on this one than bury it in a footer.

What we stock

Two lights. One simple, with a solar panel for when there is no socket; one with full RGB and every control the first one leaves out. We are not going to sell you a ring light, a backdrop or a lens filter, because those already exist and they are already cheap.

Both are 2000 lumens at 95+ CRI, both weigh 323 grams, and both charge over the same USB-C cable as everything else you own.

Who we are for

People who shoot in places that were not designed for shooting. Hotel rooms, rented flats, car parks, other people's kitchens. Creators who fly with a carry-on. Photographers who have quietly stopped bringing their softbox because it is not worth the trip.

If you have a studio with mains power and a permanent grid, buy a rigid light — it will be brighter and cheaper. We are for the other situation.

How we price

The price on the page includes VAT and it is the price. No launch discount that never expires, no countdown timers, no invented "was" price to make the real one look like a deal.

The name

Dybends is what our first sample did when we over-inflated it. The name stuck before we had a better one.
